In the idyllic setting of Arizona’s Out of Africa Wildlife Park, you’ll meet a very special inhabitant who’s both a crowd-pleaser and an ambassador for his kind. His name is Jericho, and he’s a stunning Southern White Rhino with a story that captivates the hearts of those who meet him. As we approach World Rhino Day on September 22nd, let’s delve into Jericho’s remarkable journey and learn why this day is crucial for the survival of all five rhino species.

From Busch Gardens to Arizona: Jericho’s Incredible Journey

Jericho made headlines when he arrived at Out of Africa Wildlife Park on September 5, 2013. The travel was no small feat for this 4,800-pound behemoth; he journeyed over 2,100 miles from Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida. Upon his arrival, Jericho was quick to claim his new 6-acre estate—a living space six times larger than his previous home. One could say he was eager to stretch his legs in his expansive new domain!

Jericho’s Legacy: Carrying the Torch for Boom Boom

Jericho wasn’t the first rhino to win over the hearts of the Out of Africa Wildlife Park visitors. He carries on the legacy of Boom Boom, the park’s first rhino, who passed away from old age. Like Boom Boom, Jericho has become an essential feature of the park and a beloved symbol for rhino education efforts.
