Welcoming the Newborns at Out of Africa Wildlife Park!

Nature has bestowed Out of Africa Wildlife Park with two precious gifts – Zaire, the adorable addax, and Makari, the resilient sable antelope. These magnificent creatures bring hope and joy, reminding us of the importance of conservation efforts. In this blog post, we’ll delve into their stories and celebrate their arrival at the park.

Zaire: A Glimpse into the World of the Addax

Endangered Baby Addax

On July 7th, Out of Africa Wildlife Park welcomed Zaire, a remarkable addax calf, into its family. Zaire’s mother, Sahara, proudly welcomed her little one, adding to the critically endangered addax population.

The addax, native to the vast Sahara desert, is an antelope species that faces the threat of extinction. With their distinctive twisted horns and resilient nature, they have captured the hearts of conservationists worldwide. The birth of Zaire signifies a small but significant victory in the ongoing battle to protect this rare species.

Makari: Triumph Over Adversity

Baby Sable Antelope

Born on May 31st, Makari joined the sable antelope herd at Out of Africa Wildlife Park. However, her entry into the world was not without challenges. As a “dummy” baby, Makari lacked the instinctive suckle response and motivation to nurse from her mother, Lenyenti. This presented a unique situation that required intervention and care from the dedicated park staff.

Under the guidance of the park’s veterinarian, the animal care team took on the responsibility of supplementing bottle feeds for Makari during her first week of life. With patience and perseverance, they devised a clever strategy. By making baby calls as they moved away from Makari, they enticed Lenyenti to investigate, ultimately leading to successful nursing sessions.

This collaboration between humans and wildlife highlights the incredible dedication of the park staff and their commitment to ensuring the well-being of every animal under their care.

A Strong and Healthy Bond:

Today, we are thrilled to report that Makari has blossomed into a strong and healthy calf. Her resilience and the unwavering support from the park staff have played vital roles in her remarkable progress. Makari’s 7-month-old brother, Tsavo, has taken on the role of herd babysitter, forming a close bond with his little sister. Together, they explore their surroundings, providing endless delight to visitors and serving as a testament to the park’s successful breeding program.

Observing Makari:

The Out of Africa Wildlife Park invites all animal enthusiasts and nature lovers to witness Makari’s incredible journey. She can be observed during the African Bush Safaris, Supermog Safaris, and VIP tours, allowing visitors to witness her playful nature and appreciate her unique beauty up close. Makari’s story serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, perseverance and care can pave the way for a thriving future.
